What are we working on now?
A proposed Aggregate Mining and Inert Debris Landfill Project, the Otay Hills Quarry, has been making its way through the County of San Diego application process since 2004. The project encompasses 434 acres within six parcels in the foothills of the San Ysidro Mountains in East Otay Mesa. The project site is located in the unincorporated area of San Diego County and falls within the boundary of the Multiple Species Conservation Plan.
The Otay Hills Quarry proposes deep pit mining of construction aggregates, materials processing, and a landfill operation on 105 acres of the project site. The project would be developed in four phases over 120+ years and comprise multiple operations: rock excavation, materials processing, a concrete batch plant, a cement treated base Plant, asphalt batch plant, asphalt and concrete recycling, and inert debris engineering fill operation (IDEFO).
The proposed quarry will have significant impacts on endangered species, wildlife, habitat, air quality, land use, water quality, GHG emissions, noise pollution, traffic and aesthetics.
The County of San Diego’s Draft EIR for the proposed rock quarry is now out!
